Crafts from seagrass in Kim Son, Ninh Binh

Kim Sơn, Ninh Binh is famous for products from seagrass for many years in the North of Vietnam and ít products have been exported to more than 20 countries all over the world.

Visiting Kim Son in the middle of June, tourists can feel the airy subtle fragrance of the ripen rice paddy and the seagrass flowers. According to people here, the seagrass has grown for two centuries. Through hundred years of encroachment into the sea, Kim Son people have made vast area to plant seagrass.

When the Bruguiera flowers bloom is also the time farmers start to cut seagrass from the field. The green seagrass is rended into smaller pieces. After that they are dried under the sun and used to make various products. Gradually, people know how to make attractive products for exports.

According to statistics of Kim Son, in 2011 the total area for planting seagrass is 384 ha, total output reached 3,125 tons, produced more than 23 thousand products in various types. At present, there are 23 villages and dozens of bussinesses. These bussinesses are the bridge to connect the markets with handicraft villages and promote exports to other countries. Moreover, these bussinesses also hold classes to train 800 workers carefully and professionally to meet the demands in the district and nearby provinces such as Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa… These products are becoming more and more popular with foreign customers because they are friendly with environment and diversed products
